What's new

Changes to Survey, newest first. Reload the app to get the latest.

  • Drop-downs and action menus have a new look: a highlight glides from row to row, and menus grow out of their button.
  • Renaming a document shows the new name at once everywhere: open tabs, every list and your other screens.
  • Spaces: polygon areas draw and edit like the Polygon tool, with check marks to close or finish, Shift for 15° sides and a + on each side to add a point.
  • Spaces: Move or copy drops down from its button, and the page is one "3 / 36" box.
  • Done in select mode is now the list icon with its pen turned into a check, and it morphs in and out.
  • The app opens faster: about a tenth less to load before the first screen.
  • Plans: live editing together is part of Pro.

  • Set page scale can apply one scale to this page or to every page, and the scale stays after a reload.
  • Measuring: your last five scales show as quick picks, a scale bar sits on the page while a measure tool is on, and there is a new Perimeter measure.
  • Stamps made in other apps that carry no look of their own, such as Acrobat's Approved and Draft, now show on the page.
  • Upload as new version brings every mark and Survey Marker across to the new version.
  • Templates have an Auto-mark as Complete switch: turn it off to mark items Complete only by hand.
  • Pro plans include OneDrive export, as the pricing page says.
  • Swipe rows are simpler: slide left to delete (a long slide deletes at once) or right for one everyday action such as Share, Duplicate or Move. A mouse drag works on a computer.
  • A new text box takes the bar's width, border, fill and dashed or dotted style, and dashed and dotted borders now show and print.
  • Drop-downs in dialogs such as Share, invite, move and print use the app's own look.
  • Document access and Manage team open at full size, with no jump while people load.
  • Reopening a big drawing set is quicker, and the first page shows sooner.
  • One look across the app: every action menu shares the same rows, with an icon on each and Delete last, and dialogs and messages match.
  • Done in select mode tucks the select buttons away cleanly, and dialogs fade out as they close.
  • Spaces: Move or copy is a smaller card with a space drop-down and icon buttons, and switches that are on show gold.
  • Archive on a computer sorts by its column headers, like Documents.
  • Big drawing sets open and become editable sooner, and documents open quicker on slower computers.
  • Moving marks on a big document is smoother: no stall on the first edit, and page previews wait while you drag.
  • With several documents open, switching tools and zooming are lighter.
  • Spaces: the Select tool draws a drag box to pick areas, Move or copy opens as a small card by its button, and a new space opens ready for its name.
  • Switching to a tab with a big drawing set is about three times faster.
  • Keys act only in the tab you are looking at, never in the tabs behind it.
  • Deleting a space, a region, a category or several Survey Markers happens at once, with an Undo button instead of a question.
  • Spaces: clicking or erasing a smoothed Lasso area follows the curve you see.
  • Closed documents give back their memory, so the app stays lighter as you work.

  • A page that fits the screen no longer slides sideways, and a nearly straight pan on a zoomed page runs straight.
  • Switching PDF tabs is smooth: the side bars stay put and each tab keeps its tool and panels.
  • Documents open a little faster.
  • Moving, resizing or turning marks on a busy sheet is smoother.
  • Resize grabbers show a double arrow turned the way they pull, and point grabbers show a pointing hand.
  • Callouts have three new grabbers: slide where the line meets the box, or move either half of the line.
  • One look everywhere: Done is a double check mark, select bars share one order, dialogs share one card, and the stray white border on clicked buttons is gone.
  • Spaces: Enter, Esc and Erase replace the Cancel, Done and Full page buttons, and a click picks the shape under a shape tool.
  • Reopening a big drawing shows its first page in about 1.8 seconds instead of 4.4.
  • Dragging marks on a busy sheet redraws only the marks you move, so it stays smooth.
  • Cut with a left-to-right box takes every pen stroke inside it.
  • Polyline and Polygon start at 2 pt.
  • Counters resize from their corner grabbers again, and a double-clicked counter pin turns with its handle.
  • Locate on page lands on the marker on the first click.
  • The Survey bar fits in one row, and new markers get a name you can change, such as "Camera 1".
  • Survey panel: Select swaps in place, markers move or copy to any category, and module tabs fit with a +N menu and drag to reorder.
  • Spaces panel: the grip always shows, edit and move are always there, and the region count sits under the name.
  • Text settings: Aa swaps them into the second row, and the width pill shows just the number.
  • Style and Arrow ends open card pickers, and Set page scale opens as a small dialog.

  • Ctrl + drag copies a single callout or Survey Marker too, and can drop the copy on another page.
  • Hold K while you resize a group to scale its line widths along with it.
  • The line width box no longer saves a value when you Tab past it.
  • Phones: a long press no longer opens a stray menu.

  • Ctrl + drag (Cmd on a Mac) a mark to copy it. Let go of the key before you drop to move it instead.
  • Change a pen's width and opacity on the page: Alt + right-drag (Ctrl + Option + drag on a Mac) sideways for width, up and down for opacity.
  • A new line width picker: a sample stroke, a slider, a box to type a number and quick picks.
  • Resize or turn several marks at once with the selection frame's grabbers. Callouts and Survey Markers come along.
  • Survey Marker: the new-marker card opens at once, shows the entity colour while you draw, and Pan can pick markers.
  • Regions: a new Polygon area tool, the Delete key removes an area, a clearer toolbar and a Move or copy menu.
  • A text box you narrow from its side grows taller to fit its words.
  • The selection bar keeps clear of the rotate grabber, and snapping has an on/off switch.
  • The keyboard reaches every clickable row, header and menu item.
  • Hover hints look and act the same everywhere, and PDF tabs show their full name on hover.
  • The page fits again when you open or close a side panel, and the Survey bar no longer covers the page.
  • Big drawing sets: no freeze after picking Select or Eraser, faster Undo, smoother dragging on crowded sheets and no stall after opening.
  • Pressing a pin's tail moves the pin.
  • Phones: bigger tap areas on survey discs.
  • The website has an animated sun and moon switch for light and dark.
  • The survey Export button now says Export data. It downloads a spreadsheet that opens in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers.
  • The Revision cloud tool has a new, clearer cloud icon.
  • New pictures on the website, taken in the real app on a computer, a tablet and a phone.

  • A fresh look for the website: cleaner type and spacing.
  • Free PDF tools: RTF, HTML, DOCX, BMP and GIF to PDF, and the tools are faster and lighter on big scanned drawing sets.
  • Polylines and polygons: add a point on an edge, or remove one (right-click Delete point, Alt-click, Delete key or long-press).
  • The page menu has Select all on page, Paste in place and Set page scale. Every Copy now uses the same clipboard.
  • Deleting a page, archiving a project or restoring a revision shows an Undo message instead of asking first.
  • Measure shows the length in an easy-to-read label above the line.
  • Phones: picking a tool no longer moves the sheet, and the Undo message has a bigger Undo button.
  • Only the owner can Share or Delete from the Projects select bar.
  • Opening a cloud PDF from Home starts showing it sooner.
  • Phones: Revision cloud and Measure are in the Shapes row, and the scale dialog has bigger buttons.
  • In a project's menu, only the owner sees Share, Delete and Add member.
  • Answer sets have two new ready-made choices: Installed / Missing / Damaged and Works / Not working.
  • Big drawing sets use less memory.
  • Two new tools: Revision cloud, in the Shapes row, and Measure, which sets a page scale and shows lengths as you draw.
  • The Move and Copy buttons are easier to tap on touch screens.
  • If checkout can't start, you now see "Could not open checkout. Please try again." instead of nothing.
  • New here? "Start free" opens Create account, your first visit has a sample drawing to try, and downloads show a "Downloaded" message.
  • Phones have a labelled Export button in the top bar.
  • The website and free tools use the app's gold color.
  • After a cloud save, the unsaved dot clears.
  • When a teammate undoes a delete, the item no longer disappears again on other screens.
  • Text tool bars stay on one row, and the page stays still the first time you use it.
  • Phones: the last tool on the side rail can be reached, Helvetica text stays on the page, and wide sheets fit the screen.
  • Free PDF tools: PDF to Word (also as PDF to DOCX) and PDF to Markdown. They get the text out with its paragraphs, headings and lists, ready to edit or to paste into an AI tool.
  • Free PDF tools: split a PDF into parts under a size like 10 MB, check every page's size (ARCH D, 11x17, A1), and add a logo or stamp image to pages.
  • PDF tools inside the app: from a document's menu in Documents, the viewer's Export menu or the phone More menu. Pick several documents to merge them into one PDF. Results save as a new document.
  • Documents shows "–" for the page count while a file is still loading, and hints that a double-click opens it.
  • Account settings has a "Download my data" button that gives you a ZIP of your files and work.
  • Big drawing sets show their first page sooner, and no longer freeze for a moment after they open.
  • Counter marks keep their size after you draw an arrow or rectangle.
  • The page grid draws under your markup and the page text, not over it.
  • Buttons in dialogs are easier to tap on touch screens.
  • Color pickers have a "Recent" row with the last custom colors you used.
  • Delete account in Account settings works again and removes your files. Work you shared stays with the people you shared it with.
  • Survey photos no longer keep the GPS location they were taken at.
  • An optional half-inch grid over the page, from the right rail on desktop and tablet or the zoom menu on phones.
  • The Share dialog shows the owner's name and full email addresses, and the access list fits small phones.
  • Bigger buttons to tap on tablets and in the phone Delete account dialog.
  • The free tools page has categories, puts the most used tools first and links related tools.
  • Free PDF tools: 17 more, including OCR (make a scan searchable), compare two PDFs, repair, extract images, grayscale, booklet and pages per sheet. Many tools now take several files at once and give back one ZIP. The tools page has a search box.
  • A PDF you just uploaded on a phone now opens straight away, without a "Couldn't open this PDF" screen.
  • On small phones, the Survey Marker shape menu (Rectangle, Freehand) can be tapped again, and messages no longer cover Done or Pan.
  • Invite links: if you sign in or make an account from an invite, you land in the shared document instead of your home page.
  • Pens: drawing starts as "Pencil or Touch". The first time you draw with a pen, Survey switches to "Pencil only" so your hand doesn't leave marks.
  • Free PDF tools: Word to PDF, plus sign, password protect, unlock and TIFF to PDF. Each tool can open its result in Survey.
  • Documents: shared files show the owner's name, greyed-out buttons say why, and tablets get a More button.

  • Large drawings open faster: big PDFs stream in a piece at a time, and the access check happens once per page instead of once per markup.
  • Free PDF tools at /tools: merge, split, compress, rotate, crop, organize pages, headers and footers, convert and more, all in your browser.
  • A status page at /status shows whether Survey is up and lists recent problems.
  • Exports never write the standard Excel layout over a customer's own layout.
  • Phones: view-only people see locked tools, Settings tabs fit the screen, and the Opening bar shows while a file loads.
  • Home lists show at once from a copy kept on your device, then refresh.
